Introduction

To me, sustainability isn’t a buzzword or a branding angle—it’s a responsibility. One that extends beyond the products I design to how I show up as a business owner, engineer, and person. When I first read The Responsible Company by Yvon Chouinard and Vincent Stanley, it reshaped the way I think about business. It challenged me to ask tougher questions and build a company that isn’t just focused on growth, but on doing things the right way. That’s the foundation of Atlas Product Group.

Lesson 1: Make Things That Last

“The most responsible product is the one you don’t have to buy twice.” – Yvon Chouinard

That quote hit home for me. At Atlas, I design every product to go the distance—whether it’s a sim racing accessory, a splint built for backcountry use, or a minimalist health tool. I use high quality materials and run products through rugged testing before anything ships. Because the most sustainable thing I can do is make something you won’t need to replace.

Lesson 2: Know Your Impact

I believe that knowing your supply chain is the bare minimum. I work with manufacturing partners who share my values—people who care about their workers, their energy sources, and their environmental footprint. At my shop in Colorado, I’ve adopted lean production and additive manufacturing techniques that help me reduce waste and run more efficiently. I’m constantly digging deeper into the impact of every material and process I use.

Lesson 3: Packaging Matters Too

Packaging might seem like a small detail, but it’s part of the responsibility. I’ve shifted to recyclable, plastic free, and often compostable materials. I design packaging to be functional beyond delivery—whether that’s a storage tray, a reusable pouch, or simply something that disappears cleanly when you’re done with it.

Lesson 4: Carbon Neutrality as a Standard

I track every bit of carbon that comes from my operations—whether it’s from powering machines, shipping parts, or sourcing materials. I reduce where I can and offset what I can’t yet eliminate through verified reforestation and soil restoration projects. The goal is net zero by 2027.

Lesson 5: Sustainability as a Daily Practice

One of the biggest takeaways from The Responsible Company is that sustainability isn’t a box to check—it’s a discipline. It’s something I work on every day, whether that’s refining a product to use less material, revisiting packaging, or just listening closely to what my customers care about. I treat every touchpoint—design, production, support—as an opportunity to improve. This is why I offer lifetime repair for many products and why every support message gets a human reply from me or my team.
